i am OTHER "Stereotypes - What color is your music?"

THIS IS VERY INTERESTING.

Some of the answers and body language in this video are very very interesting. Some of these people are almost afraid to answer and some are definitely lying for the camera. Like the guy who says he likes R&B and then names Gnarls Barkley...um no.

But, overall it's a pretty interesting video on what a general NYC(I assume it's NYC, might be somewhere else) population of people might say about this subject.

What kind of music do you listen to?

I would say I listen to good music.

Janet Jackson -"If"

This video is from 1993, which means I was 12 and in 7th grade, and this song was the shit! Rummaging through old boxes of CD's yesterday my boss and I came across and unopened copy of "Janet" by Janet Jackson. Then I time traveled back to 1993 and had a total nostalgia trip through listening to this album. It's Janet's best in my opinion! She should have kept going in this direction. There is something kind of bipolar about the album, meaning some songs are super POP and catchy and some are really dark and have those heavy 1990's drums. Janet was a better Britney Spears before Britney was. Janet's voice isn't super mind blowing or anything, but she has some of that same charm Michael had tons of.

Anyway, I remember the cheerleader girls in my class in middle school being obsessed with this video. They all had the dance routine down pat! Janet looked so amazing in this video too.

I keep saying this, but I think this kind of music is about to make a comeback...

This album is really really really bumping and amazing. What a great sophomore follow up for Santigold! I have had this album for a few weeks since it came out, but really haven't had a chance to get into it yet...today was the day. There are parts of this album that make your speakers sound like you are in rave in a cave on the #MOON. It's fucking awesome.

Are we sure that isn't really Kanye who throws the first Molotov Cocktail?! I think it's him, I want to believe it is him. Supposedly, Jay & Ye are not in this video at all, which does add to the effect it has on it's own message. The rest of the footage we have gotten from The Throne so far has been so materialistic, this is a nice change. BUT...

Somehow, this song made more sense to me when I heard it in "The Great Gatsby" trailer, also posted below. Maybe I am missing something, but what do the lyrics have to do with civil unrest? I think this video is really beautifully shot, and maybe that is the ironic part about it? It's a pretty looking video about people uprising seemingly due to inequality and they are being grossly mistreated because of it? Or are they really just focusing on the chorus:

So, if there is no church in the wild and these are a bunch of non-believers then what are they fighting for or against is my question? I think this is the first video that really expresses Kanye's darker side. There is really no humor in this video, and when I hear this song it always makes me feel really kind of aggressive, it's one of my favorites off "Watch The Throne".

Really visually badass video though. Kanye, you know I love you forever right?

Maximo Park "The Undercurrents" at NME...

This is another NEW song by Maximo Park from their upcoming album "The National Health". I hope NME posts more of this session. I think this new album is going to be REALLY GOOD. Paul sounds awesome, I think it's funny how restrained he is in this video, meaning body movement, not voice!

This song reminds me much more of their album "Our Earthly Pleasures" which was so freaking awesome. This song is much better written than most of the last album "Quicken the Heart". I am so glad that what I have seen so far seems super promising!

Ok, a few months ago I posted a different acapella thing with Stooshe, and now they are doing a new song here! I am into this.

I feel like 1990's R&B / POP is about to be freaking all the #rage again...I am talking the likes of SWV, EnVogue, C&C Music Factory, TLC, Boyz2Men, etc...

These ladies are exactly that, only in the day glow colors of the 1980's. The 1990's were a little darker, black leather, a lot of camo, really long nails...

I love love love the way Graham Ulicny sings, in his own way, it's just raw emotion coming out. I love how his voice goes from being sort of goofy and over exaggerated to raw and grizzly and deeply over exaggerated. It's pretty awesome and I bet they are super fun to see live!

Pharrell Williams presents...i am OTHER

I like what Pharrell say's about Lauren Hill being the inspiration for at least the name of this re-branding / marketing / social movement?

I just find it all a little hard to digest, not the Qream, haven't had that yet...

What I mean is that =

A) Whenever older successful people are looking for younger people to mentor because they are "new" "fresh" and "not mainstream", why do they inevitably try and exploit them and make whatever they had that was different the mainstream? It's this never ending cycle of FADS TO MAKE MONEY and once the fad is over these kids may or may not be a part of the taste making any longer = #sad

And B) Nothing is new anymore. And nothing may ever be completely new again. I am overwhelmed by the over saturation of the same things all the time too...but in the video below entitled "We're Here" there are only pretty looking hipsters in there...so how is that portraying the idea of trying to bond people that are different?

Not sure this is something I can totally get down with, and maybe that makes me more "OTHER" than most.

This is so nerdy and awesome. Never thought I would see the day that a rapper would use scrabble in a video quite like this. #brasilliant. I really need to get over to the UK, it's so cool there right? This reminds me a little of Dizzee Rascal, maybe it's just the voice, thoughts?
