Samtastic! Review: 808's & Heartbreak

Bought this album yesterday, but I had heard it all online a couple of times.

I have to admit that I am late to the Kanye party. The first album I bought was Graduation. Then I pretty much bought everything else he ever made after that. I am out of order, I know.

If you don't like Kanye West, then you just don't get it. This album is totally different anyway, and probably shouldn't or can't be compared to any of his other work. Graduation was groundbreaking for Hip-Hop, and it turned Kanye into an international superstar. But, in my opinion, it was still a Hip-Hop album.

808's & Heartbreak is not a Hip-Hop album, nor is it R&B or even Pop. It is it's own thing, it is ART. This guys heart is broken, it's all over the record, he even uses the word Heartbreak in the album title and as part of one of the song titles, so it's pretty obvious right?

But after the "HATERS" get over the massive use of voice manipulation (which I strongly oppose usually) and just listen to the album it is wonderful. The voice manipulation in my opinion on this album is not to make the voice sound better, Kanye is not an amazing singer, it's just the style of the whole thing, it brings consistency, and it goes with what I feel is the space/ future feel that started on songs like Stronger and the tour for Graduation.

Kanye is sad. His mother died. He and his fiance are no more. His heart is broken and this is the product.

I think it's brilliant, there isn't anything else like it, or him.

Samtastic! Review: Kings of Leon - Only By the Night

Ok, so I know I am a couple of weeks late on this, but I just got the new Kings of Leon album...I have listened to it once, or maybe twice. I have been a huge fan from the begining.

That said, I think all the haters out there are crazy. And all the fans who say this band has sold out are just not listening closely enough. I think these songs are brilliant and evolved if anything. Their original raw backwoods sound is great, but now this is what 5 years later? People change, they have more experience and things to draw from. The energy is still the same.

Give Only By The Night a listen, this is def one of the better bands out there in the world...and they were really great live too.
