Samtastic! Review: Am I the only one?

Seriously, am I the only one who didn't know that Blink 182 has broken up and formed into 2 new bands?

Was I in a cave somewhere?

NOT that I really care, although I did like "Meet the Barkers", it was kind of funny from what I saw of it. And it seems like Tom DeLonge is doing better in Angels and Airwaves than the band formed by the majority of the original band...which I can't even remember their name, wow.

Man it is shit like this that makes me feel really dumb, even though I seriously couldn't care less...I didn't really like Blink 182 anyway. They have that really annoying whiny potty humor sound that sticks in your f'in brain even when you don't want it to.

Anyway, I am still feeling uninspired by new music...so I will keep writing about this kind of crap until someone gives me something really goooood.

Samtastic! Review: The Bill of Rights

http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/constitution.billofrights.html

Here is the Bill of Rights, just in case you haven't seen it or thought about it in awhile...it's pretty interesting to me that most of the first 10 things our founding fathers thought about were related to jail, war, soldiers and protection from each other. Life was so different then, or was it? They did a pretty good job of covering the bases.

Amendment 10 is pretty interesting.

But Amendment 1 is the most important to me.

Amendment 2 is a little scary.

I feel like a connection to this stuff gets lost after say 5th grade. It is important isn't it?

Samtastic! Review: AC/DC Thunderstruck

This one is for NIK...

AC/DC can be looked at in a million different ways, but few bands have the power to really get you pumped up the way they can, in my opinion.

Take the song Thunderstruck for example...it is pretty amazing. The beginning chords are pure ROCK build up, I suggest listening to the LIVE version while driving like 80 mph, you'll get it then. The humming sections will make you really smile I think.

Samtastic! Review: The VMA's

This year's VMA's were so bad that I couldn't even finish watching them...and then I needed a day to reflect on what I had witnessed.

1. MTV should change it's name to RTV = this would cover the wide spectrum of things that seem to fill it's airtime...Reality TV, Retard TV, Repulsive TV, ...basically it's all shit, and it's mostly just a testament to the downfall of this country.

2. Justin Timberlake's shining achievement of the evening was asking MTV at least twice...to PLAY MORE VIDEOS. All of the awards I actually saw, were not based on videos at all. This to me makes him look pretty silly, because we have all been asking MTV to do this for ummmmm years! But at least he is the only Superstar with balls left.

3. The whole layout of the evening was pretty cool, if it had worked. They had various party ROOMS in addition to the pretty amazing main stage area. But they ineffectively used their space. No one in the main area looked excited to be there. Then they would cut to a performance in a particular room, but the sound didn't always work, or it looked like it was more fun everywhere besides the main stage. Once again, Justin's party probably took the cake, but Kanye's looked pretty fun too. Mark Ronson was pretty much the only good part of the main stage...except maybe Chris Brown's performance, who can dance any one's pants off, but he didn't actually sing, so it looked sort of ridiculous.

4. Can't even talk about Britney Spears.

5. And then Kanye's aftermath. I just read an article about him, where he talks about his Ego and his temper tantrums and how he is going to chill out...but obviously that's not true. He didn't win anything, but I don't get it, his album wasn't out yet...so why is he bitching and turning it into a race thing? He may just be the master of BUZZ...his album drops today doomsday, and so does 50's album...I think Kanye might win this sales race, but if he does are we ever going to hear the end of it?

So once again, I could probably keep going, but it was just awful. This part of our POP culture should be shot in the head. MTV : Please stop throwing parties just to pat your friends who make crappy music on the back. Please stop putting horribly detrimental television on the air. Please stop promoting the careers of untalented hacks...when there is plenty of real talent in the world.

It's probably easier if you want to watch music videos, I suggest watching the station IMF...that's all they play.

Samtastic! Review: Arrested Development

The album "3 Years, 5 Months and 2 Days in the Life of..." by Arrested Development might be one of the best albums ever, at least in my opinion. There were a few key popular songs that are really well made, lasting through time, but the album as a whole is almost perfect. This album is from way back in 1992 . Can you imagine, going back to that time? I was freaking 11 years old and I was obsessed with this band and this album...Growing up in rural NJ, I had no idea that life was not always the way I had known it. This was my introduction to hip-hop.

Anyway, I never really heard too much about this band after this album, and yes, they have others. Maybe they shied away from the massive commercial success they could have had, because they wanted to make music their way...or maybe I am just ignorant, and don't know what I am talking about. This is the way hip-hop should be, an elevating mastery of language, not ringtone ready bullshit.

Samtastic! Review: Aretha Franklin

I am feeling uninspired this week, so I am going to write about Aretha, who always inspires me.

If I knew Aretha I don't know what I would do...I feel like I already know her. I envy her voice more than any other person alive. Everything she sings about is like my heart and life exposed, even though she was singing about it 30 or 40 years ago. I just look to her for words when I can't seem to put them together.

It is undeniable how good she is, she is one of the only artists I truely believe has gone through most of what she sings about. Her every performance is genuine, and yet somehow her demons never got the best of her like most creative geniuses.

She was always ahead of her time, cutting a path that no one had traversed before, the original DIVA. Truely and icon, beautiful, talented, and smart. Her vulnerability is perfect.

Ok, so some of my favorites include, but in no way are exclusive too:

Drinking Again
Without the One You Love
Since You've Been Gone
Good to Me as I am to You
Love the One Your With
Don't Play that Song
Dr. Feelgood
Spirit in the Dark
This Girl's in Love With You
Son of a Preacher Man

Not totally sure if these are all Aretha Originals, but she could sing anything and it would probably be better than the original anyway.
