Samtastic! Review #1266: Childish Gambino Freestyle in London

The sound in this is pretty bad, posting anyway because the music is still pretty badass. The music is loud that is why you can't really hear the freestyle. =

Says SoulCulture in the comments section on YouTube:

"Haha... Yeah the sound isn't great. But we liked the energy so we just thought ufck it and uploaded it. Look out for something special from Childish on SCTV soon :)"

So I am sure that will be better...

Samtastic! Review #1265: Chairlift's NEW album "Something"

The new album "Something" by Chairlift upon first few listens is a keeper. I have been waiting to see if this follow up to "Does You Inspire You" would be worth the wait, and I think it is!

Apparently, Chairlift co-founders Aaron Pfenning and Caroline Polachek were dating and they broke up before the making of this album. I had noticed the absence of the ex-boyfriend's voice, and was happy about it. And I think Polachek and remaining Chairlifter Patrick Wimberly have come out on top.

They didn't remake "Does You Inspire You" they made "Something".

Take a listen for yourself, and you can now BUY it on iTunes and various other places.

This is funny also:

Samtastic! Review #1263: Tennis "Origins" LIVE at Doug Fir

I like the Doug Fir Lounge in Portland, OR...I haven't seen a show there, but I did stay at the Hotel that is part of it...cool place. I bet this show was really...Portlandish.

Tennis is coming here again in March and if I am in town I will go see them again. Alaina's voice is as pure LIVE as it sounds on record. I like that they describe themselves on their Facebook page as "minimalist pop". New Tennis record titled "Young & Old" out 2/14/12.

Samtastic! Review #1262: Hyperpotamus makes me stupid happy

Hi. it's Tuesday. bleck.

There are not many things that are making me feel happy lately, but this album is one of them.

I have had "Delta" by Hyperpotamus on vinyl for a few weeks now, but I was able to download it on iTunes yesterday. Finally! I can listen to this album in my car where I spend a lot of time! I woke up with the song "Seahorse for Dragon" in my head and then I listened to it during my commute, see how that works? It's a beautiful thing.

When I bought the vinyl it came from the UK physically from Jorge R. Escudero! At least I think that it must have, there is a handwritten return address on the outside of the package. He is one of the people I would die to meet in person. Come to the US, or I will come to Europe, that sounds better.

Samtastic! Review #1257: THE KILLS Short film & NEW Video for Last Goodbye

If you read this blog, then you know how I feel about The Kills. I am seeing them again soon. This kind of stuff below makes me so happy. I love both of these people and have obviously never met them.

Here is to 10 more years at least!

The Kills - The Last Goodbye

 Posted on YouTube:
The Kills celebrate their ten year anniversary this poignant and playful video for 'The Last Goodbye', taken from their latest album 'Blood Pressures'. Directed by the Oscar nomiated acctress Samantha Morton, who made her directorial feature debut with the critically acclaimed 'The Unloved', this is her first music video.

Shot in monochrome on crisp, silvery 35mm, the video reflects the beautiful simplicity of the track, with an old-school photo booth providing an intimate backdrop for Mosshart's intense and heart-warming opening performance followed by a series of touching to-camera poses reflecting the musicians' longstanding, spirited friendship.

Produced by Juliette Larthe through PRETTYBIRD

Jamie N Commons, where have you been all my life?

This video is...well, just watch this beautiful man...And the song below that, is also great.

I might have a new obsession now, so unexpected!

There must be something about British dudes named Jamie...I am going to have to go to London soon.

More to come from this guy, for sure.

Samtastic! Review #1255: Anthony Gonzalez of M83

Anthony Gonzalez of M83 talking about "Hurry Up We're Dreaming"... I could listen to him talk all day. I never really have heard him speak at length before, so here you go! Enjoy!

This might sound weird, but I could see him working on a movie soundtrack for any of The Hunger Games trilogy...since I am sure the first one is already done, maybe the 2nd or 3rd? Something about "Hurry Up We're Dreaming" seems fitting for The Hunger Games...

Hey Anthony, have you read The Hunger Games?

Samtastic! Review #1249: NME video Who is your New Band Tip for 2012?

Who is your New Band Tip for 2012? By NMETV
Alex James, The Maccabees, Brandon Flowers, and Frank Turner reveal their favourite new bands.

To be completely honest the only reason I clicked on this was because Brandon Flowers is in it...I heart him to pieces.

Frank Turner sold me enough to check out Jim Lockey & The Solemn Sun = http://jimlockeythesolemnsun.bandcamp.com/

More from them to come perhaps...

MY NEW TIP for 2012 =

Hyperpotamus!!! The album Delta is amazing, I bought a record player so that I can listen to the LP I bought. Hyperpotamus isn't NEW, but I want everyone in the world to hear it, so I am not shutting up about it anytime soon.
